choosing my gender: Gentleman, Damsel, or Grrrl?
For those keeping track, my new Blogspot interface doesn't include my del.icio.us links on the sidebar anymore. I'm trying a new social bookmarking application, diig.
I'm signing up for this thing, and in clicking to find my gender, I notice more than the two typical gender choices of Male and Female. My first reaction: This is awesome! Finally an application that recognizes transgender and other gender identifications. My second reaction: Hmmm, are they poking fun at this issue? I thought I had my gender down fairly pat as Male. Now I see I could also be Dude, Fellow, Bird, or Chap.
Of all the decisions I have to make in a single day, I'm at least happy that selecting my gender is one of them.

There is also a Facebook app to extend the possible gender/sexual identities to be presented in a profile: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2353404662
I don't think they are making fun of anyone, just providing choices. Seriously, I can't fathom how that would be making fun. It is just a feature that would intrigue people, we all like little trinkets. In 20 years they will have everything down pat and there will be only 1 web-site for everything in the world - and it will be perfect.
I like that you can put "none of the above". I'd either be that or Fellow or Bird. I don't know what Bird refers to but I like it the best, however due to not knowing what it means(probably something from the 1950s) I'd likely go with Fellow or None. Good work overall on this.
Bird is british slang for female.
