There was a reason for my post on my hair style links. First, I find it amazing that somewhere around 2/5 of web surfers per day land on my blog because of this picture. Second, I think I have found an interesting relationship between a canned hairstyle photo, and that of a rhinoceros. The other day I received a new comment on a very old post, one that I all but forgot about, received no comments, and was never linked. The post was about Rebublicans in the state of Kansas who vote Democrat, defeating (and somehow also supporting) Thomas Frank's thesis of a few years ago. Here is the comment text:
Hi! I was checking our web stats and I noticed lots of traffic from your site. Thanks! It looks like you used our logo in discussion of the Republican In Name Only. Fine by us of course... but we are the River North Art District. rivernorthart.comHow could this be? "lots of traffic from [my] site?" This means that lots of traffic first gets to and then clicks on this picture of a rhino from this forgotton post and ultimately leaves my site for that of the River North Art District. Lot's of traffic. Yet, no one finds me by Googling "Kansas" or "RINO" and I'm sure that very few actually dig into my archives looking for pictures of rhinoceros (hey, the singular is also the plural!) for which to click.
We've got a great District Tour coming up next weekend, so if your in Denver come on by!
Buy Art!
Then it dawned on me: It's those blasted hair style magazine searches! Even today, since midmight 8 out of 26 visitors found me by Google-Imaging "hair style magazines." That's 30% of blog visitors, over the 2/5 from yesterday. Counting the last 50 visitors, it's exactly 17, the same as I found 24 hours ago.
Here's the connection: My RINO post was at the end of June, and appears part way down an archives page that pulls up for Google image searches for "hair style magazines." Why people looking for hair styles decide to click on a rhinoceros is quite another mystery, but the end product is that a handful or two of folks per day end up visiting River North Art, thanks to my blog. Who knew?
So thanks to Tracy at RiNo, who did not pull the image from my site (as people often do), but rather added a line of credit to the bottom of the RiNo image. I like the rhinoceros and its bird friend, am glad it has little to do with Republicans, and encourage everyone to check out RiNo, buy art, and remember to visit whenever in Denver.

2 things that people say:
Thanks for including us in your blog! What a story! I love it when things like these happen. Gosh, we are going to have to make you an honorary RiNo now! Ahh the power of the blog and well web-stats to! Thank you again for the plug!
;) Tracy
The only time I was ever in Denver (and not passing through the airport) happened to be the same weekend of a busker fest. Among all the street performers of shell games and stilt walkers, my favorite act was this guy who played the Jimi Hendrix National Anthem on a handmade electric cello.
A different art of course, but I fell in love with Denver because of that weekend. Wish I could make it to your show, and good luck.
